'I can't breathe': Are you aware of the uprising?
By Cihan Tuğal
"Liberal political and economic prescriptions that defined the world since the 1970s have collapsed: either something will take their place or those in power will use forceful and unconventional means to overcome this unrest. What is clear for now is this: neither those in power nor the opposition has any alternative. There are of course ideas flying around. But at the moment there doesn’t seem to be a group or movement—either within the system or outside of it—to shoulder responsibility for them. In such a situation, those in power suffice by making tiny changes to the system. The opposition on the streets “hits and runs”: it damages the system, but neither fixes it nor offers an alternative."
